Nourished by Nature
Have you ever dropped lavender essential oil into your hands then clasped them together for an inhalation or two? The experience of the aroma is quite unreal. "It’s at this moment that I realize the power and wonder of the earth and my intuition connects my mind with the knowing that these flowers and plants that surround us are for our healing and nourishment." says Natasha Crow, Chief Alchemist at House of Hilt. This delightful guidance is what drives us at House of Hilt to pursue the making of skincare products using plant based, intelligent ingredients.
Essential Oils at Work
Essential Oils reach your brain, through your olfactory system (your nose) within 22 seconds. After 2 minutes they enter your bloodstream, and within 22 minutes they can be found in every cell of your body! Within 90 minutes there are no traces of them in your body any longer. Your body recognizes their amazing properties and utilizes them immediately. Your liver is not burdened by them and your body uses barely any energy to eliminate them.
Essential oil molecules are so small that when applied to the skin, they are able to pass through the outer layer of skin. From here the essential oil molecule passes through the dermis (the deep layers of the skin where your blood is and where change is created) into the capillaries and into the bloodstream, leaving you little gifts of anti-viral, anti-septic and anti-fungal properties to cleanse, beautify and protect you. Natasha often wonders why people are not using essential oils daily. "I believe that the convenience of modern medicine and the security that most people feel in taking an over counter remedy has a lot to do with us not using essential oils, herbal tinctures and other non-toxic remedies. They require study. They are often not used daily by our parents and other family members and they are misunderstood."
The dosage of essential oils could be the most misunderstood. It is important to remember, one drop is one dose. It is true that essential oils are highly concentrated substances and can easily irritate the skin if applied directly, that’s why it is important to use a carrier oil with a smaller molecular structure, like organic sweet almond oil, or organic coconut oil for topical application.
If essential oils are used properly, they deliver results for many skin ailments and beautification of the skin, they also provide many healing benefits. There are many studies online to support the use of essential oils and we feel they have a place in self-care. We feel avoiding them is truly a disservice to ourselves and the gift that nature provides us.
