With September almost here, and cooler, dryer weather ready to replace summer’s heat and humidity, it’s time to start thinking about how to transition your skincare routine from summer to fall—and how to treat some of summer’s most common skincare conundrums.
“At this time of year, I notice many of my clients’ complexions are showing a lot of hyperpigmentation and congestion from sunscreen use, as well as looking rather parched,” says Natasha Crow, our Co-Founder, Chief Alchemist and a practicing aesthetician.
Hyperpigmentation, or oxidation of the skin, is also referred to as “brown spots”; it often has a speckled appearance and can pop up anywhere on the skin. One of the reasons it might appear is because of overexposure to the sun; the brown spot can be a reaction to the heat of the sun’s rays. You can’t ever get rid of it completely, but it can be suppressed.
Similarly, the skin can feel congested at the end of the summer because of necessary sunscreen use, and can also feel dry due to the heat.
So how do you rejuvenate and nourish end-of-summer skin and prepare for fall? Here’s a three-step routine that’s perfect for the seasonal transition, and that takes advantage of Mother Nature’s medicinal natural ingredients.
Step 1: Cleanse. Our Carrot Citrus Cleanser is soothing, hydrating and extremely gentle; it’s the perfect antidote for sun-kissed skin when you need something restorative. Carrot, lemon and cucumber soothe and balance; arginine and shea butter soften and revitalize; and our proprietary Hilt Infusion System nourishes and rejuvenates.
Step 2: Detoxify. Our Cherry Plum Peel detoxifies and oxygenates the skin by stimulating blood flow, nourishing your cells and making your skin look radiant. Our proprietary House of Hilt infusion No. 1 gently exfoliates the skin, providing an antidote to milia, or white bumps under the skin, that may have formed under the skin because of sunscreen use.
Step 3: Soothe and Treat. Our Amber Primrose Facial Oil, with its 25 percent lipophilic Vitamin C, will help calm and suppress hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, making it the perfect ingredient to fight against hyperpigmentation’s oxidation. Additionally, the argan oil in the facial oil is a wonderful protectant that works to help the skin keep in the benefits of the Vitamin C, sealing in all its good work.
