What to Know About “Fragrance” and “Parfum” in Skincare

Have you ever opened a jar of moisturizer and met with a striking aroma or unusual fragrance?  Perhaps you love and continue to use a particular product because of the way it smells. Most conventional skincare lines add fragrance to cover up an unpleasant or nondescript smelling formula.  Frankly, chemical-heavy formulas just don't smell nice!

Unfortunately, these added fragrances are often irritating to the skin, especially sensitive skin.  Artificial fragrance can also be a potential endocrine disruptor, meaning they can negatively affect our hormones.  In addition, skincare and personal care products are not regulated in the US when it comes to ingredient lists so companies can list “fragrance” or “parfum” making it seem like a lone ingredient when in reality it could be 300+ ingredients!

How can you be assured you are avoiding artificial fragrance your products? Check the label to see what gives your product its smell.  If you see “fragrance” or “parfum” on the label, investigate its source.  It very well can be artificial. If it does say fragrance it should have the word “natural” next to it to be assured of its source. Only buy products from companies you trust to give you the best clean ingredients.

Fortunately with House of Hilt, one never has to be concerned about sensitizing ingredients that can be detrimental to our health.  We’re a plant based, toxin-free and filler-free company so you won't find added fragrance in any of our products.  The beautiful aromas in our products are derived naturally from botanicals, herbs and fruits.  So rest assured, you and your beautiful skin are in good hands.
